This is a replay of a Qigong podcast interview “Create More Energy In Your Life” conducted by my Chinese medicine practitioner colleague, Lucy Townsley, who started her own podcast on women’s health in January 2022. She has interviewed a number of fascinating, knowledgable experts about many health matters affecting women and I was fortunate enough to be invited to speak on her podcast.
In this Qigong video interview I emphasise my passion and belief in equipping my clients and Qigong students with tools which they can use to manage their health for themselves. These “Qigong tools” encourage you to take responsibility for your own health, giving you confidence and empowering you so that you no longer feel helpless when it comes to your state of health.
Main Points
In the podcast I explain to you how to:
Annihilate Anxiety
Extinguish Exhaustion
Minimise Mind Chatter
Help Boost Immunity
Qi Gong is a different type of exercise where you don’t force your body to move. You use your breath and mind to lead the body’s movement. This can be helpful if you suffer from pain.
Breathing is a huge part of Qigong. When you breathe in deeply and feel the belly expand out. The diaphragm will then move in different directions, sideways, forwards, backward, up, and down. The benefits of breathing are huge… Breathing brings energy to your body called Qi in Chinese Medicine. Breathing in and out of the nose helps calm the mind and helps with anxiety.
Do you have a place in your body that is painful? If so, I explain how breathing into the area can help ease your pain.
In this podcast, it’s made very clear that anyone can learn how to turn their health around. You can be in control of your life. Once you start on this journey it helps ease any worry of future health concerns.
The most important takeaway for you from my Qigong video interview is to understand that change can happen by allowing rather than forcing things unnaturally. Many Qigong students put in too much effort rather than simply enjoying and observing their practice. 😊

Introduction To Qigong for Present Moment Living
In this video you can follow along with some Qigong for present moment living. Often our minds are not in the present. We can be distracted by thoughts from the past or worrying about the future. The purpose of this Qigong routine is to bring you into the present moment and experience the feeling of being in the now!
Method for Qigong Present Moment Living
Choose a comfortable sitting or standing position for this practice.
1. Begin with Abdominal Breathing. Click here for more details;
2. Combine the movement of the lower abdomen, the breath and the mind for a few breaths.
3. Swimming Dragon Arm Exercise. Follow along with me in the video for a few rounds of this exercise. Once we finish think about where your mind was during the practice; in the past, present or future? Were you distracted by what you had to do later that day (go shopping, cook dinner, do stuff with the kids) or were you fully immersed in the present moment of your practice, with your mind focused on your breath and movement?
Integration into Your Day
You can use Qigong to bring yourself into the present moment anytime you wish. Even if you don’t have time to practice the Swiming Dragon movements, you can always bring your mind to your breathing at any time. The result is that your mind will feel calmer and more relaxed.

Introduction To Qigong for Lymphatic Circulation
In this video you can follow along with some Qigong for lymphatic circulation and immunity enhancement. The function of the lymphatic system is to clear debris such as bacteria and viruses from your body. For this reason it is closely related to your immune system.
Symptoms of poor lymphatic drainage include cold hands and feet, fluid accumulation and a weakened immune system.
How We Can Use Qigong for Lymphatic Circulation
Qigong can help to enhance the flow of lymph and remove any areas of stagnation in three main ways:
1. Using Abdominal Breathing. Click here for more details;
2. Moving the body which can increase lymph circulation by up to 15%. You can do this by practising the Circles method, the tapping method which you can follow along with in the video, or any other physical movement;
3. Posture. Any inversion will work well in helping lymph flow. Simply lying down with your legs elevated on pillows or the “legs up the wall” yoga posture (as demonstrated in the video) will be very helpful.
For more information see my previous blog post on “Qigong for Lymphatic Drainage” here.
Integration into Your Day
You can perform Abdominal Breathing anytime you have the opportunity. Movements such as walking which is part of day to day life will help improve the circulation of your lymph. The tapping and legs up the wall exercises can be done in a matter of minutes so don’t take too much time. Having said that, there is nothing more relaxing for lying with your legs up the wall for 15-30 minutes if you have the time!
