Qigong For Heart Health – Introduction

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) terms, our Heart system governs our circulation, blood pressure and pulse, influences speech, “houses” the mind to keep it calm and clear, allows us to get off to sleep at night and plays a role in our memory function.

A well nourished Heart manifests in healthy circulation and heart function, healthy blood pressure, a calm mind, and peaceful sleep.

An imbalance in our Heart system can result in blood circulation problems, palpitations, high blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia and poor memory.

The Qigong method I teach here shows you one of the 8 Pieces of Brocade (Ba Duan Jin) movements called “Shaking Head & Wagging Tail” which helps descend Fire (Heat) from the Heart system which commonly causes the symptoms above, down through the coccyx and perineum.

You’ll learn three different levels of this method, depending on which level of movement is available to you with the result that you will have one of these levels which you can incorporate into your Qigong routine or perform as a standalone Qigong exercise.

Qigong For Heart Health – Method

  1. Adopt the correct sitting posture.
  2. Settle into your practice with a few abdominal breaths to bring yourself into the Qigong state.
  3. Level 1: Perform Shaking Head and Wagging Tail sitting with legs hip-width apart. This is suitable for wheelchair users and anyone with limited movement and flexibility.
  4. Level 2: Perform Shaking Head and Wagging Tail sitting with legs wide apart. This creates more of a stretch in the groin and down the inside of the legs but is still gentle on the back.
  5. Level 3: Perform Shaking Head and Wagging Tail from the classical horse stance position.
  6. Finish with a few abdominal breaths.

Benefits of Qigong – Part 2 – How Qigong Benefits Your Relationships

Benefits of Qigong – Part 2 – How Qigong Benefits Your Relationships

What’s so interesting about Qigong is that not only does it benefit you but its influence reaches farther afield.  Qigong can significantly improve your relationships and also cause positive changes in the behaviour of those around you. When you start to change for the better so do those around you! The reasons for this are what I’ll be talking to you about in this post which is Part 2 of the “Benefits of Qigong” mini series (To watch Part 1 click here).

Janice Tucker is a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Qigong. She is also the founder of the Space To Relax online programme of Qigong video lessons.

The 3 Main Benefits of Qigong In Your Relationships

1. Fewer Arguments

Practicing Qigong means that you become less stressed and more calm (this is one of the main benefits of Qigong for you). The result is that you are less irritable, tired and overwhelmed.  You are therefore less snappy and short tempered with your loved ones, work colleagues, etc. You become more pleasant to be around. Consequently you are far less likely to get sucked into arguments. Ask yourself, how much patience do you have when you are exhausted compared with when you are not?

2. You Are More Valued

Another one of the main benefits of Qigong is that by increasing your energy levels you have more motivation to get out there and do things with family and friends. They then feel more valued by you so they feel happier. Your relationship with them is improved, often far beyond any expectations you might have had!

3. You Inspire Others

When others around you see you being calm, relaxed, stress free, vibrant and energetic you inspire them to be like this too.

Qigong Benefits (Part 1)-How Qigong Benefits You

Qigong Benefits (Part 1)-How Qigong Benefits You

This video from Dr Janice Tucker is the first in a two part series about Qigong benefits. What I’d like to share with you today is specifically how Qigong benefits YOU.

What Are The Main Benefits Of Qigong For You?

There are five main benefits:

1. Relaxation

Qigong offers you the benefit of relaxation both physically, mentally and emotionally. This has the effect of calming your mind and giving you much more energy.

2. Calms Mind, Adjusts Breath And Posture

The effects of these three factors lead to more energy, more strength in terms of health and also the ability to cope much more readily with day to day stress!

3. Strengthening of Health

As a Chinese medicine practitioner I love this particular benefit. Qigong helps build up your health.  This makes you stronger and more resistant to disease. By doing strengthening your health you can help to prevent the onset of any illness which is the most effective way to manage your health! Head off any illness before it has the opportunity to take root in the first place.

4. Helps Treat Illness

By practising Qigong you can help slow down the progress of a disease or illness and also help speed up your recovery from illness.

5. Helps You To Live Longer

The idea that Qigong can increase your longevity makes sense when you consider the previous benefits. If Qigong helps treat illness, prevent disease and makes your body stronger then it follows that you have a good chance of living longer! Qigong practitioners are reputed to look younger than their actual age and be healthier than the next person.  This is because they are continually adjusting and managing their health on a day to day basis.

If you’d like to learn more about Qigong then head over to my Space To Relax homepage. Here you can sign up to receive three free video lessons which will be delivered to you by e-mail. By practising these simple 5 minute lessons you will get a flavour of the Qigong benefits of feeling much calmer and at the same time more energetic.

Breathing and Relaxation Techniques – A Huge Misconception

Breathing and Relaxation Techniques – A Huge Misconception

Today I want to let you know about the huge misconception that’s out there about Qigong breathing, relaxation and meditation exercises. There is the idea that if you are going to do relaxation exercises then you need to put a certain amount of time aside every day to do this. Because of this, many people find breathing and relaxation exercises very difficult to implement. They have the idea that they would like to do some form of relaxation exercise but never seem to get around to doing it. They just don’t have time.

From my point of view, this is a huge misconception. As I teach Medical Qigong online through my Space To Relax programme and in face to face workshops, the main focus of that teaching is to show my students how to integrate Qigong breathing and relaxation exercises into their day. I know myself that if I have to put aside and allotted time every single day for practice then it is very hard to keep to that….but….I also know that if I’m able to integrate Qigong exercises into my day then I can do it so easily – it just happens!

Qigong exercises can be done when you are walking, standing in a queue at the post office or in the supermarket, in bed at night just before going to sleep (using some of the Qigong breathing and meditation exercises). It’s very easy to integrate Qigong breathing and meditation exercises into your day.

So, if you have found in the past that you have been discouraged from practising any kind of relaxation exercise because of the time factor and having to make a slot available in your day then be discouraged no longer!

The benefits of Qigong breathing and relaxation are huge and numerous. They will help you to relax, relieve your stress and overwhelm. Many will help you to sleep peacefully at night or give you much more energy so that you can achieve much more in your day than you thought possible, taking it all in your stride.

I would encourage you to try some Qigong exercises so if you are thinking, “Yes, I can do this, this will be workable for me” then head over to www.spacetorelax.com and on the homepage you will see you can download a free Qigong meditation called “Calm Your Busy Mind in 8 Minutes”. Once downloaded you can listen to it on your laptop or phone whenever you have a tiny bit of relaxation time while sitting enjoying a cup of tea or just before going to sleep at night. This method is so easy to integrate into your day as it takes so little time.

I’d love to know what you think of the meditation so please leave a comment below or head over to my free group on Facebook: Space To Relax Free Group and ask to join so you can then leave a comment there.
